"That passion was very inspirational and got me very involved." SEA was formerly started in 1976 as the sailing program of the Oceanic Society. Jane Piereth, a Benicia resident, was initially hired to start a program to train people to sail so they would have the skills to help the skippers on boats that the Ocean Society Bay Area chapter used to perform water quality sampling in the Bay. She instituted a sailing camp in 1983, the program that's been the hallmark of SEA for 30 years and which will be celebrated at an event on Saturday. . . ."
