Rolex China Sea Race 2018 – The Spirit of Yachting Video

The 2018 Rolex China Sea Race in this edition of the Rolex Spirit of Yachting film series. Interviews with competing yacht owners, exciting race footage and an introduction to Hong Kong’s premier youth sailing programme are among the highlights of this 25-minute documentary. The race started in Victoria Harbour, surrounded by the city’s impressive high-rise panorama, and continued over 565 nautical miles of open water to Subic Bay in the Philippines. Held biennially over the Easter weekend, the 29th edition of this Offshore Category 1 race resulted in Mandrake III, skippered by its co-owner and Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club member Fred Kinmonth, taking the overall win. Rolex World of Yachting video first published May 7, 2018.

Rolex World of Yachting video above published Mar 27, 2018: Hong Kong plays host to the Rolex China Sea Race. On 28 March, a fleet of first-rate yachts will head out from Victoria Harbour to the final destination of Subic Bay in the Philippines, as part of Asia’s principal blue-water race. The year 2018 marks the 29th edition of the event, organized by the multi-faceted and cosmopolitan Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. Renowned for its tactical challenges, the 565nm adventure is not for the faint of heart: lumpy seas and a stiff breeze often accompany the early stages, in contrast to the gentle winds that characterize the finish. The Rolex China Sea Race upholds the Corinthian ethos that lies at the heart of Rolex’s enduring relationship with yachting.
