Vendée Globe 2016-17 Update, Ocean Masters First Week Video

D12 : 12 skippers in the global south / Vendée Globe

Video above published 17 Nov 2016. News - Vendée Globe 2016-2017: "The extraordinary step up in performance of the new generation of foiling IMOCA monohulls at the front of the Vendee Globe is evident today as Alex Thomson added more miles to his lead in reaching conditions in which his Hugo Boss clearly excels. Even the British skipper, who has lead the solo round the world race since last Saturday night, admitted today he, himself, is deeply impressed at the speed of his VPLP-Verdier design in the 16 to 19kts trade winds in which he has been fast reaching in today, some 300 miles east of Salvador de Bahia. "I am just looking at the statistics. It is pretty amazing to be on a boat which in 16-17kts of breeze I can average 22kts," said Thomson ..." read more at the link above.

Vendée Globe, Around the World Race, Starts Nov 6, 2016 (video)

Around the world race with Rich Wilson - Vendée Globe 2017:

In November 2016, American skipper Rich Wilson will set sail in the Vendée Globe 2016: a solo, non-stop, around-the-world sailing race, departing from Les Sables d’Olonne, France. Rich’s motivation in participating in such an extraordinary challenge is to excite and engage students in learning, by connecting them to live, global, real-world adventures. Video published Aug 25, 2016.

The program evolved into a series of educational programs now available through the Sites Alive Foundation and www.sitesalive.com. Rich’s mission is simple: excite, engage, and teach students. At 58 years old, he was also the oldest skipper in the fleet. He was the second American to finish the event (Bruce Schwab finished 9th in 2004 aboard Ocean Planet).

Paul Meilhat the Vendée Globe:

Vendee Globe starts November 6, 2016: 3 months around the world solo, unassisted and nonstop, 3 months to excel and draw on its reserves, 3 months to cope with depression, cold, rain, change sail, returning the canvas, 3 months to live an extraordinary experience.

New York--Vendée Race, The Movie, Sailing Videos

New York Vendée - The movie:

New York – Vendée (Les Sables d’Olonne): a challenging final trial run before the Vendée Globe (Video published June 28, 2016)

Best of the New York - Vendée transatlantic race:

Setting sail from the ‘Big Apple’, bound for what was the cradle of the IMOCA Class, the port of Les Sables d’Olonne, France, one could hardly ask for more in terms of symbolism. On the one hand, New York, a cosmopolitan crossroads of influences, is a perfect illustration of the international aspirations of both IMOCA and Open Sports Management. On the other, France’s Vendée region, represents the heart of the IMOCA class, thanks to its legendary solo round the world race, in which some of the most extraordinary episodes on the high seas have occurred over the last twenty-five years. The final opportunity to qualify for the Vendée Globe in race configuration, the New York – Vendée (Les Sables d’Olonne) promises to be a significant event in the IMOCA Ocean Masters Championship. Above all, the New York – Vendée (Les Sables d’Olonne) will be the final major confrontation in singlehanded configuration before the Vendée Globe.
