RORC Transatlantic Race - Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in association with The International Maxi Association - Phaedo3 takes Line Honors as MOD70 battle comes to a close - MOD70s finish in Grenada - Lloyd Thornburg’s mighty green MOD70, Phaedo3 crossed the finish line off Quarantine Point, Grenada Friday morning, completing the RORC Transatlantic Race at UTC 10:56:03 in 5 days 22 hrs 46mins 03 secs. Waging a ‘Master and Commander’ style battle from the start in Lanzarote, Team Phaedo held onto their lead, finishing less than two hours ahead of Tony Lawson’s MOD70, Ms Barbados (Concise 10) and taking Line Honours victory in the second edition of the race. Ms Barbados (Concise 10), skippered by Ned Collier-Wakefield was the second boat to finish at 12:36:44 UTC and the friendly rivalry ceased as Team Phaedo3 welcomed their transatlantic match racing partners alongside the dock. The Finish Line Awaits | Transat Jacques Vabre 2015 : Le Havre - Itajai | October 2015 | Take to the seas and act for the planet: "Francois Gabart and Pascal Bidégorry are on the home stretch with no significant weather hurdles remaining on the 5400 miles Transat Jacques Vabre course which left Le Havre on Sunday 25th October. At 1600hrs UTC this Friday afternoon they had 314 miles standing between their bows of Macif and the finish line in Itajaí. Second placed Thomas Coville and Jean Luc Nélias on Sodebo Ultim are 178 miles behind and have been averaging three knots slower than Macif which is making 27 to 28kts. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, victory should be Macif’s in the early hours of Saturday morning. Skipper Francois Gabart, who won the Vendée Globe on his first attempt at just 29 years old in January 2013, said today that the final 40 miles into the finish line will be complicated, but their margin over second placed Sodebo Ultim’ should be enough to secure a maiden race victory...." Topping the leaderboard after 32 gruelling races The Wave, Muscat, took control in the wild conditions, posting five podium finishes on the final day and more podiums over the event then any other team. Addis and Tienpont join Team Vestas Wind | Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015: "Team Vestas Wind have recruited two talented and experienced offshore sailors into their crew for the planned return to the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 from Leg 8. The team will be joined from the Lisbon stopover onwards by Tom Addis and Simeon Tienpont. Addis will navigate the Vestas Wind boat throughout the final legs of the race. Tienpont will replace Tom Johnson as bowman as the latter has decided to accept a position within the Oracle Team USA. Australian Tom Addis, 45, is a two-time Volvo Ocean Race veteran – having competed with both PUMA and Teléfonica Blue as navigator in previous editions – and has participated in multiple transatlantic crossings and Sydney to Hobart races... Experienced Dutch sailor, Simeon Tienpont. 33, formed part of the America's Cup winning team Oracle Team USA on two occasions and has one Volvo Ocean Race under his belt as an under 30 with ABN AMRO TWO in the 2005-2006 edition of the Race..."
