Route du Rhum: Alex Thompson's IMOCA 60 Crash Finish
IMOCA 60 leader Briton Alex Thomson got to within 10 miles of Guadeloupe island and went to sleep. His electric probe wake-up watch either didn't fire or he slept through it so he woke up, in a flash, when he hit the rocks. To save his multi-million Euro yacht he started the moter, got off the bricks without too much damage and finished the race.On passing the line the Jury boarded his boat, interviewed him and as a result of starting the motor, they penalized him 24 hours on his elapsed time, which resulted in Thomson finishing 3rd in the IMOCA class. He admitted his mistake widely. An unfortunate incident in his sailing career.--World on Water video above published Nov 17, 2018.

Aged only 40, he already has a solid experience in sailing and more particularly on multihulls. Trained for top-level Olympic sailing, synonymous with discipline, rigor and organization, he gave concrete expression to his aspirations thanks to his determination. His passion for multihulls led him to undertake several large-scale sailing projects. Talented and versatile, he has collected records and victories on various circuits, in oceanic as well as in inshore races (e.g. Route du Rhum, Transat Jacques Vabre, Extreme Sailing Series, America’s Cup World Series, Vulcain Trophy)..."
Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe: " Since its first edition, the magic of this transatlantic race operates from its base at Saint-Malo, France. Every four years, the corsair city opens wide the doors, and launches the public imagination and a wonderful invitation: to escape and wonder at the absolute dream solitary navigators ... to compete face to face with the ocean of rare intensity ... Notice windy freedom! As desired sound designer Michel Etevenon, the Route du Rhum has always been great emphasis on diversity. Since 1978, it brings together, on the same starting line and the same route, monohulls and multihulls, small ocean and giant sea horses. This new kind of transatlantic opens the paths of the Atlantic sailing yachts of all kinds, she reveals the fierce vitality of racing..."
Spindrift racing ready to fly on Bullitt GC32 Racing Tour - published on May 26, 2015
The future of sailing is, quite literally, flying. The catamarans that soared above the waves in the 2013 America’s Cup in San Francisco have taken the sailing world by storm. The boats have revolutionised sailing technology and competition, giving rise to the creation of new classes.
The GC32 is one such class, a 10m one-design catamaran which can “take off” in wind speeds of just 8 knots. The carbon-fibre dragonfly has already established its place in regattas around the world, both in costal venues and on some of Europe’s most beautiful lakes. Multihull experts Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard and their Spindrift racing team are passionate about innovation and elite international competition, and have decided to join the GC32 Racing Tour 2015. more sailing news below (@ web version link below for mobile)
