52 SUPER SERIES 2018 May 22-27:
Sibenik 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week, Sibenik, Croatia.
52 Super Series 2018 Schedule:
  • Sibenik 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week, May 23rd - 27th, Sibenik, Croatia
  • 52 SUPER SERIES Zadar Royal Cup, June 20th - 24th, Zadar, Croatia
  • ROLEX TP52 World Championship Cascais 2018, July 17th - 21st, Cascais, Portugal
  • Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week, August 21st - 25th, Mallorca, Spain
  • 52 SUPER SERIES Valencia Sailing Week, September 18th - 22nd, Valencia, Spain
Teams: Alegre, Azzurra, Bronenosec Gazprom, Gladiator, Luna Rossa, Onda, Paprec Recyclage, Phoenix, Platoon, Provezza, Quantum Racing, Sled, Xio Hurakan.

Unlike handicap racing, the 52 SUPER SERIES races are on a simple first-past-the-post format, real time racing with no post-race time compensation. Owners and crews love the high speeds, the exceptional power to weight ratio, the dinghy-like feel on the helm and the need to pursue small incremental advantages to win races. It truly remains a unique proposition within the sport of sailing. The 52 SUPER SERIES is the best monohull racing in the world.

Competition Format
Each of the five regattas consists of around ten races, with a mixture of windward-leeward and coastal courses depending on the venue. Usually there might be four days of windward-leeward races and one day of coastal courses, but this may be more in a location where the coastal racing is special. Over the course of the season all results stand – there are no discards – and typically that means around 45 to 50 races in the season.

The Congressional Cup is one of the most respected trophies in match racing history. In 1963, the goal of the Congressional Cup founders was to create an annual, world-scale regatta that would run over a short course with intense action, and offer a competition that would be a true test of skill by using equal and identical boats. The first regatta was held in 1965. Through the years, Congressional Cup has attracted an increasingly impressive following of internationally renowned skippers and crews – including many America’s Cup participants – have sought an invitation to the regatta. Now in its fifty-third year, Congressional Cup is back as the only monohull event on the World Match Racing Tour.

2016 RORC Caribbean 600 Update, Monohull Comanche (videos)

Video above: Comanche wins Line Honours in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2015 - 28 Dec  -  Jim Clark and Kristy Hinze-Clark’s maxi Comanche pulled off an incredible feat.

A Look Back at 2015 RORC Caribbean 600: Stories from the race

2016 RORC Caribbean 600 update:
The record fleet for the RORC Caribbean 600 enjoyed a full moon on the first night of racing. At sunset on the first night, all of the fleet had rounded the Barbuda mark, enjoying fantastic sailing conditions and highly competitive racing. Phaedo3 and Concise 10 were at the front of the fleet enjoying a thrilling high-speed duel, often touching a blistering 30 knots of boat speed. 100ft Maxi, Comanche was blasting through the Caribbean surf in hot pursuit of the monohull record for the course. Four Maxi72s were in a close quarters battle for supremacy, but two of the smaller yachts in the fleet were vying for the overall lead as dawn broke on day two of the RORC Caribbean 600.

IRC Overall
Three yachts in IRC Zero occupy the podium. Steve Benjamin's American TP52, Spookie is the provisional leader for the race after IRC time correction. Spookie was set to round Tintamarre the northern most part of the course this morning. Last night, Spookie and a leading pack of about 25 yachts rounded the chicane at the top of the course weaving past Nevis, St.Kitts, Saba, St. Barths and St.Martin. This is probably the most technical part of the 600 mile race, with dozens of manoeuvres requiring precision and stamina from the crew. Spookie's crew is a well-drilled short course unit, well versed in boat handling. On Spookie's hip is Piet Vroon's Dutch Ker 51, Tonnerre. The Dutch grandmaster's team is also well versed in short course racing having won her class in last year's RORC IRC National Championship. Tonnerre 4 was less than eight minutes behind Spookie after IRC time correction.

Maxi72

Hap Fauth's JV72, Bella Mente was lying third after time correction and leading the tight pack of four Maxi72s, but only just. Peter Ogden's Jethou and George Sakellaris' Proteus were both in sight. Dieter Shoen's JV72, Momo showed great speed during the first day to round Barbuda, just behind Bella Mente. Momo was the leader after time correction for several hours, but during the night fell back behind the others by some three miles.

MOCRA Multihull
It is all on in the battle between the two MOD70s. Lloyd Thornburg's Phaedo3 has led the multihull fleet since the start of the race but the American MOD70, co-skippered by Brian Thompson has been pushed all the way by Tony Lawson's British MOD70, Concise 10, skippered by Ned Collier Wakefield. Covering an astonishing 380 miles in just 20 hours, the two flying machines were entering the wind shadow of Guadeloupe at dawn this morning. The 'Guadeloupe Casino' could well decide the victor. The wind shadow west of the French island, followed by a tricky passage from Iles des Saintes to La Desirade is one of the most complex conundrums of the course. Phaedo3 have a slender advantage over Concise 10, but by leading the way, if Phaedo3 stall, Concise 10 will take the advantage without any mercy. After corrected time using the MOCRA rating system. Phaedo3 holds the upper hand from Concise 10 with Jonathan Bush's Gunboat 62, Zenyatta in third.

IRC 1
Grand Soleil 46, Belladonna, skippered by RORC Admiral Andrew McIrvine with RORC Commodore, Michael Boyd as navigator leads the class. On the water, 10 yachts in IRC One were on the wind heading for St.Barths. The majestic 213ft schooner Adix was leading the race overall during the night, but stayed on starboard tack on the beat to St.Barths and lost ground. Erik De Turkheim's French A13, Teasing Machine was second in class just seven minutes behind Belladonna after IRC time correction. Teasing Machine should be very fast on the next leg; a 55nm reach to St.Martin, as will Adix. Andrew Weiss' Sydney 43, Christopher Dragon was in third.

IRC Two
Defending class champion, Scarlet Oyster, skippered by Ross Applebey had a one hour lead, however virtually the entire class was in a close pack beating to St.Barths at dawn this morning. First 40, Arthur Logic, skippered by Oliver Heer was leading on the water and second after time correction, and Dominic Hurndall's Grand Soleil 43, Jua Kali was in third place. Andrew Allner's Swan 53, Ballytrim is six miles behind the leaders but may well move up the rankings after cracking sheets around St.Barths.

IRC Three
Irish eyes are smiling in IRC Three with Conor Fogerty's team from Howth Yacht Club on Jeanneau Sunfast 3600, Bam leading the class this morning. However, the Irish team have a full-on battle with Susann Wrede's German Swan 441, Best Buddies. The two yachts have pulled away from the rest of the class and matching each other for speed on the beat to St.Barths.

Wed 9 December 2015: 1200 UTC--Nomad IV set the bar - Winner of the International Maxi Association Trophy for Monohull Line Honours

Jean-Paul Riviere's French Finot Conq 100, Nomad IV crossed the finish line of the RORC Transatlantic Race at 19 hours 06 mins and 59 secs UTC on Tuesday 8th December 2015, taking Monohull Line Honours to win the exquisite silver International Maxi Association Trophy. Nomad IV has also set a new monohull record for the RORC Transatlantic Race of 10 days 07 hours 06 minutes and 59 seconds. Jean-Paul Riviere and the Nomad IV crew were greeted at Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina by Glynn Thomas, General Manager of Port Louis Marina; James Bremridge, Deputy Racing Manager of the Royal Ocean Racing Club and Chrislyn Lashington, Grenada Tourism Authority, who presented Nomad IV with a basket of Grenadian specialities, including Westerhall Rums, Grenadian Chocolate and Spice. "Fantastic!" exclaimed the French skipper. "We were so disappointed last year when our broken boom made us retire, but this year has been really special. We have had very few problems, so it's a different story. Nomad IV crew is a combination of five regular crew, five French TP52 sailors and five Russian guests and we have had such an incredible time together. To win Line Honours was our goal and we have achieved that. The possibility of winning the race overall will be amazing, but we will have to wait until the other boats finish before we can have a double celebration." After clearing customs in Port Louis Marina, the crew enjoyed dinner at The Victory Restaurant within a stone's throw of the Superyacht Dock. Gerald Bibot's catamaran ZED6, racing Two Handed with Michel Kleinjan is expected to be the next yacht to finish the RORC Transatlantic Race tomorrow evening.

The future of sailing debated at Yacht Racing Forum - The Yacht Racing Forum in Geneva brought together 263 delegates to discuss the future of the sport... Knut Frostad said sailing should stop trying to be a ‘Red Bull’ sport and focus on its other strengths... In Business and Marketing, Vice President of World Sailing Gary Jobson looked forward to much closer integration between sailing’s governing body and other branches of the sport. To emphasis this shift in focus, to a much more all-encompassing overview of sailing, Jobson also took the opportunity of the Forum to formally announce that the International Sailing Federation will from now on be known as World Sailing. ... Foiling technology is being seen to penetrate the sport in ways unimaginable just three years ago. More and more boats, both monohull and multihull, are sprouting foils, so attendees learned how they work, why they work, what performance gains they make, and how they can be controlled on boats as varied as AC 72’s, C-Class cats and the latest generation IMOCA 60’s... Other subjects also included sustainability solutions for composite construction and methods suggested to mitigate their effects, software integration tools and much more ... source and more info: Yacht Racing Forum and @YRFgeneva
