Teams: Alegre, Azzurra, Bronenosec Gazprom, Gladiator, Luna Rossa, Onda, Paprec Recyclage, Phoenix, Platoon, Provezza, Quantum Racing, Sled, Xio Hurakan.

Unlike handicap racing, the 52 SUPER SERIES races are on a simple first-past-the-post format, real time racing with no post-race time compensation. Owners and crews love the high speeds, the exceptional power to weight ratio, the dinghy-like feel on the helm and the need to pursue small incremental advantages to win races. It truly remains a unique proposition within the sport of sailing. The 52 SUPER SERIES is the best monohull racing in the world.

Competition Format
Each of the five regattas consists of around ten races, with a mixture of windward-leeward and coastal courses depending on the venue. Usually there might be four days of windward-leeward races and one day of coastal courses, but this may be more in a location where the coastal racing is special. Over the course of the season all results stand – there are no discards – and typically that means around 45 to 50 races in the season.

More details were promised at the end of the month. Team New Zealand released a statement after Italian billionaire Patrizio Bertelli, boss of the Italian Challenger of Record Luna Rossa and CEO of Prada, told La Stampa that the next regatta will be sailed in monohulls as a condition of his group helping the cash-strapped Kiwis in the 35th America’s Cup ..." read more at the link above

America's Cup Parade In Auckland, New Zealand (video)

America's Cup Parade Auckland

Video above published July 6, 2017: It's fair to say the America's Cup welcome home parade in Auckland was a pretty special day for everyone at Emirates Team New Zealand. The parade in central Auckland on Thursday, July 6th, celebrated the team and their incredible victory and to welcome the return of the America’s Cup to New Zealand for the first time since it left in 2003.

We won the America's Cup!

Video above published on Jun 26, 2017: "We did it. The America's Cup is coming home for New Zealand."

When Emirates Team New Zealand sped through the finish line to win the 35th America's Cup in Bermuda, Emirates Team New Zealand and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) became the next defender and trustee of the Auld Mug. And the moment the New Zealand boat crossed the line to win the America’s Cup, the RNZYS accepted a challenge from Luna Rossa’s Circolo della Vela Sicillia (CVS) for the 36th America’s Cup. Representatives from the two teams and clubs will decide on the rules for the next America’s Cup. It is expected that the Protocol will be released in a few weeks, defining (among other things):
  • Structure of the organizing body of the event (commercially and sportively)
  • Venue(s)
  • Dates of the event
  • Class of boat(s) to be used (with Class Rule to follow)
  • Regatta format, including preliminary or World Series type events (if any)
  • Entry process and associated fees
  • Nationality restrictions
  • Media/commercial rights restrictions / split between event organizer and teams
  • Profit sharing between event organizer and teams
Once the rules are defined and published, clubs and their teams will have the information needed to decide whether to take up the challenge for the 36th America's Cup.

Cup teams already plotting course to victory - 35th America's Cup: "... Speaking to a home audience, Ben Ainslie told the media his team would draw on a combination of youth and experience in building a British challenger. “We’re putting together a predominantly British sailing team, a mix of experience with guys who have been there and won the Cup a few times as well as some younger, homegrown talent that is coming through. If we were going racing tomorrow, I would be steering the boat, but that might not be the same answer in a few years time.”..."

Sir Ben Ainslie says 2017 America’s Cup could be the most competitive | Sport | The Guardian: "Sir Ben Ainslie claimed the 2017 America’s Cup could be the most competitive in history as the four-times Olympic sailing champion confirmed he intends to helm a team that is targeting a first British title. No criminal charges in America's Cup fatal capsize - ESPN: "... According to the report, Artemis Racing designer Adam May told a police officer after the accident on May 9, 2013, that the 72-foot catamaran had just performed a bear-away maneuver on San Francisco Bay "when the port side hull dug into the water and failed structurally. This hull failure caused the vessel to capsize and come to rest with the platform inverted." Simpson, a gold and silver Olympic medalist, suffered extensive trauma to his head and neck and drowned after being trapped underwater for about 10 minutes, according to the autopsy report. There were serious cuts and bruises to Simpson's head and neck, and foam inside his crash helmet "was irregularly separated consistent with being crushed," the report said. The cause of death was listed as "blunt trauma with drowning." "There were no criminal charges in this case. The investigation is closed," Officer Albie Esparza, a San Francisco police department spokesman, said Tuesday...."

America's Cup: Italian team Luna Rossa defies Cup officials - practices sailing on the Bay

Luna Rossa Press Conference Alameda (Published on May 17, 2013)

America's Cup: Italian team Luna Rossa defies cup officials and sets sail in its first practice in bay - San Jose Mercury News: "Defying a request from an America's Cup safety review committee to suspend training for a week, the Italian challenger Luna Rossa tested the waters anyway, setting sail on the San Francisco Bay on Saturday on its 72-foot catamaran. While the three-hour practice was important to test its safety measures and maneuvers, skipper Max Sirena said in a statement that "the really significant aspect was psychological. It was important for the crew to resume sailing on the AC72 and to get back into its normal training mode to prepare for the upcoming races." Luna Rossa's first sail came more than a week after a crewman on Sweden's Artemis Racing team was killed when its AC72 capsized in the middle of the bay. The tragedy threw the America's Cup regatta, slated to begin in July, into confusion. Rumors swirled that some competitors may pull out because the boats designed specifically for the regatta were overpowered by its towering main sail. . . ." (read more at link above)
