RC44 Bermuda Cup, Fleet Racing, Oracle TEAM USA Capsize, Videos

Fleet Racing Day 1- Team Aqua prevails again in Bermuda - RC44ClassAssociation

With four races sailed on day one of fleet racing in Bermuda Team Aqua never dropped off the podium. Scoring 2-3-1-3 saw her return to the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club leading, two points clear of Vladimir Liubomirov's Bronenosec Sailing Team. Following yesterday's requirement for brute force and survival skills, today's lighter winds placed a premium on tactical calls and crew finesse, "Key was the guys doing a fantastic job," explained Team Aqua tactician, Cameron Appleton. "It was a very active day for the crew and the guys trimming the sails did a really good job. We sailed well." (Published March 4, 2016)

The RC44 Bermuda Cup is the first event of the 2016 Championship Tour, which pitts the world's top businessmen and the best sailors in the industry compete in high performance one-design 44-foot carbon racing yachts.

Race For Water Foundation, R4WO, Stopover in Rio de Janeiro video

Race For Water Foundation, R4WO, Stopover in Rio de Janeiro video - Published on Nov 18, 2015: Initiated by the Race for Water Foundation, the Race for Water Odyssey is an environmental expedition which aims to assess plastic pollution in the oceans. In the South Atlantic Ocean, the teams of the expedition stopped in Rio de Janeiro and interviewed local people to understand how pollution affects this part of the world, from an economical point of view among others

R4WO - AZORES TO BERMUDAS LEG - Published on Apr 6, 2015: The "Race for Water Odyssey" (R4WO) is an expedition that aims to reach the beaches of islands located in the ocean's 5 vortexes of trash, in order to conduct the first global assessment of plastic pollution in oceans, and highlight its consequences on the populations. All this, in a record time of under 300 days, thanks to a racing trimaran, the "MOD70 Race for Water". R4WO hopes to find answers to this question, which represents the worst ecological catastrophe in history.

R4WO - CAPSIZE OF THE MOD70 RACE FOR WATER (EN) Published on Sep 23, 2015: On her way from the Koror Islands to Chagos Islands, in the Indian Ocean, the MOD70 trimaran "Race for Water" capsized on Saturday 12th of September at 8:15PM (GMT +1), 90 miles South East from the Chagos Archipelago. As they were navigating by night with 18 to 20 knots of wind, a strong gust of wind turned the boat over.

News - Race for Water"The Race for Water Odyssey (R4WO) is back in Bordeaux to conclude this unprecedented human and scientific adventure started in the same city on 15 March. In nine months, the R4WO has made 17 stops in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian to explore, analyze and raise awareness of water pollution by plastic. A first observation, dramatic: the plastic pollutes everywhere. After traveling more than 32,000 miles across three oceans, sampled many beaches, encountered a thousand personalities, and experienced the painful ordeal of a capsize, environmental expedition found today the city starting its journey . In Bordeaux, it makes an initial assessment of these 9 months of data collection on plastic pollution and personalities and the public awareness about the urgency of action. Using a standardized protocol, based on that of NOAA, the expedition teams have sampled over 30 beaches, located in five major waste accumulation areas. The various partner institutions such as the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), the University of Bordeaux (France) and the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) are currently analyzing the collected samples. For their part, the Duke University and Oregon State (USA) study images taken by the drone of senseFly eBee company. Results are expected in 2016...."

Capsizes Damage 5 Sailboats, Day 1 Transat Jacques Vabre (video)

Capsizes and Damage to 5 boats on Day 1 Transat Jacques Vabre in the Bay of Biscay. (Published on Oct 27, 2015): 40 knots of wind and 6-7 metre waves play havoc with the fleet in the 2015 Transat Jacques Vabre. Five of the "top contenders' had to retire from the race after either capsizing or experiencing damage in the wild conditions. They were Edmond de Rothschild, Safran, Maitre CoQ, Prince de Bretagne and Team Concise.

Different Strokes | Transat Jacques Vabre 2015 : Le Havre - Itajai | Octobre 27 2015: "While a high pressure ridge threatens to slow the Ultime’s positive progress south, the good news for the highly competitive IMOCA class is that the leaders have reached the awaited windshift which has allowed them to point their bows south west, out of the worst of a low pressure and at least in the direction of the finish line some 4800 miles away in Itajaí. But for the Class 40s and some of the later IMOCAs a new low pressure is the next big threat. 35 of the entry of 42 boats are still heading for Itajaí. Lemonchois and Bilou Rescued Lionel Lemonchois and Roland Jourdain whose Ultime multi Prince de Bretagne capsized just after 1900hrs UTC Monday night, 140 miles NW of La Coruna resisted the option of activating their distress beacon and seeking outside assistance for as long as possible. But with 30kts winds this afternoon and four metres waves and the prospect of 40kts tomorrow Wednesday they triggered their beacon this afternoon around 1520hrs UTC. They consulted with their partners and shore team, keeping up to date with Transat Jacques Vabre Race Direction, and in the end the skippers safety is the main priority. Volvo Ocean Race: A short lull in the breeze means repairs to boats and bodies and a bit of drying out before the wind builds again on the home stretch to Itajaí!

Meanwhile, the America's Cup "War of Words" continues--

(Video above published March 26) Emirates Team New ZealandEmirates Team New Zealand saddened by Luna Rossa's withdrawal April 3, 2015- "Emirates Team New Zealand are deeply saddened by the news of the withdrawal from the America’s Cup of Luna Rossa, one of the most established, respected and admired brands in the history of the event. Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa are close allies and share common values of fair play and integrity. Team CEO Grant Dalton today said, “We are quite frankly in disbelief that the continued actions of the America’s Cup Event Authority have lead to the withdrawal of our great friends Luna Rossa. It sends a clear and unmistakable message that the self-serving manoeuvring of rules within sports oldest trophy has consequences for not only the America’s Cup but also all of sailing. “ Emirates Team New Zealand have filed its case on the illegal withdrawal of Auckland as the qualifier regatta venue with the America’s Cup Arbitration Panel and will be making no further comment at this time."

Statement from Artemis Racing, BAR, ORACLE TEAM USA, Team France - 35th America's Cup: April 3, 2015: "We are disappointed to see how Team New Zealand are characterizing the rule changes that reflect the collective will of the America’s Cup teams. During discussions last month, ALL six teams, including Team new Zealand, agreed on the need to change to a smaller boat to reduce costs. While Luna Rossa supported a less dramatic change, a majority of teams agreed on what has become the America’s Cup Class, a new rule written in consultation with ALL teams, with drafts of the rule sent to ALL teams for comment and feedback. Each team that voted for this new America's Cup Class made compromises and sacrifices to get this done for the betterment of the America’s Cup. Taking these important decisions by a majority vote is something that was insisted upon by Luna Rossa and written into the rules of the event. Regrettably, abiding by the results of the majority vote appears to be something neither they, nor Team New Zealand, are willing to do... unless they are part of the majority. We hope that Team New Zealand can see a way forward, as we all have, and look forward to racing them in the Americas Cup World Series later this year. - On behalf of Ben Ainslie (BAR), Franck Cammas (Team France), Iain Percy (Artemis Racing), Jimmy Spithill (ORACLE TEAM USA)"

Man rescued from capsized sailboat two months after going missing at sea | US news | The Guardian"An American missing at sea for 66 days was rescued from his capsized boat 200 miles off the North Carolina coast, telling coastguards he survived on drinking rainwater and catching fish. Louis Jordan, 37, who was reported missing by his family in January, was spotted sitting on the overturned hull of his 35ft boat by the crew of a German tanker.... “He might sail up and down the Intercoastal Waterway, but he didn’t have the experience he needed to go out into the ocean,”... Records show Jordan sailed out of the marina in Conway on 23 January on board the sailboat Angel. Coastguard spokeswoman Marilyn Fajardo said officials in Miami were notified by Jordan’s father, Frank, on 29 January that he had not been seen or heard from in a week. Alerts were issued from New Jersey to Miami to be on the lookout...As he had not filed a “float plan” - the nautical equivalent of a flight plan – giving details of his route and destination, there was not enough information to narrow down the search... The yacht, Seduction, was returning to Melbourne when it hit rocks and began taking on water near Gull Island shortly before 5:00am (AEDT) on Monday.
