World Sailing Show, July 2016 Sailing Video, Sailing News

The World Sailing Show - July 2016:

With over 1,500 entries and 16,000 sailors the annual Round the Island Race is a spectacle.

But this year’s race was particularly special for one team that smashed race record – The World Sailing Show has the story and footage of the record breaking run. As the Games gets within striking distance, a new type of pressure is building for the competitors. We talk to the man they call the medal maker along with the British Olympic Sailing Team manager about the mental pressure of the Games.

Sailing with a sibling might not seem to be the perfect match, but two Chilean brother and sister pairings will be heading to the Games for a family affair in Rio. And Andy Rice explains why this Olympic class is so popular, yet so hard to sail well. Plus, news from around the world.

Sailing News:
Winners of the 108th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac Island have crossed the finish line. The Flying Buffalo, sailed by Al and Bob Declercq, won the Mackinac Trophy Division, completing the 333 mile race in 46 hours and 52 minutes. The Flying Buffalo is now a four-time winner of the race. The Natalie J won the Mackinac Cup Division and Turbo Section, finishing in 26 hours and 15 minutes. Storms made for a tough race this year, with 22 boats dropping out and one even sinking. A look back at the 2014 Race to Mackinac from Froeter Design Company on Vimeo.
The 2014 Chicago to Mackinac Yacht Race aboard Chief was 289 non-stop nautical miles. For 106 years the race has been many things. It's an annual ritual, a reunion, a test of skill, of boat handling and navigational judgement and once in a while, sanity. When it's all said and done it's about relationships, stories and the greatest of memories. This film short was captured on GoPro 3 and 3+ black edition cameras. The aerial footage was shot with a Phantom 2 quadcopter. Mike Noble wrote the narration. The video editing was done with Adobe After Effects at Froeter Design. Morgan Fingleton of Shaggy Dog Productions did the sound design.

Chicago to Mackinac race: See who's giving Amway heirs' yacht some competition | MLive.com: "Cory Dangler sells cars during the week. But this weekend, he and his crew of three buddies will sail his tri-hulled boat, Solstice, in the prestigious 107th Chicago Yacht Club to Mackinac race. "It's something that was on my bucket list my entire life," said Dangler, the owner of Auto Exchange of Holland and a sailor since he was 10. Solstice is one of 82 Michigan-based vessels to enter the classic race, which begins at the Chicago Lighthouse just off Navy Pier on Friday and ends at Mackinac Island sometime over the weekend, depending on the weather conditions. More than 330 yachts are entered, according to race officials. Dangler, whose 28-foot vessel is one of the smaller boats entered in the race, will be up against some of the fastest sailing vessels in the world, including Windquest, the 86-foot yacht owned by Amway Corp. scions Dick and Doug DeVos..."
