2017: The Year Of The America’s Cup and New Framework Agreement

This is the year of the America's Cup

Video above published Jan 1, 2017: 2017 is the year that the 35th America's Cup will be decided, and only one team can take home the oldest trophy in international sport. Will it be the Defender's ORACLE TEAM USA again? Or one of the five worthy challengers? Only time will tell.
  • Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers & Challenger Playoffs --Bermuda 26th May - 12th June 2017
  • Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Finals: Bermuda 20-21st June 2017
  • America’s Cup Match presented by Louis Vuitton: Bermuda 17-18th & 24-27th June 2017

New Framework Agreement Creates Strong Future For The America’s Cup:

Video above published Jan 25, 2017: A vision for the future of the America’s Cup has been agreed by current competitors that would see long-sought stability and continuity in the competition for the oldest trophy in international sport. New framework for America's Cup | RoyalGazette.com: "During a press conference at The House of Garrard in London, United Kingdom where the America’s Cup trophy was originally crafted in 1848, skippers and team leaders revealed a framework agreement that would cover the next two editions, the 36th and 37th America’s Cup, due to take place in 2019 and 2021 respectively. Racing in the 35th America’s Cup will take place in Bermuda in May/June of this year and the 36th America’s Cup cycle will commence thereafter. “Today we can announce that a new framework agreement has been created, determining the format of the next two America’s Cup cycles, its protocols and its class rules,” announced Martin Whitmarsh, the CEO of Land Rover BAR, a challenger for the 35th America’s Cup ..." read more at link above.

Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2016 Video, Vendee Globe Update

Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2016 - The essence of the race:

The 72nd edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart closed on 1 January with the official prizegiving organised by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. The ceremony presented an opportune moment to reflect on a truly memorable race. Anthony Bell’s 100-ft Maxi Perpetual LOYAL won line honours and took almost five hours off the previous race record. Jim Delegat’s 70-ft New Zealand yacht Giacomo showed true resilience in claiming overall race victory on handicap. Their remarkable exploits were both rewarded with Rolex timepieces. However, the Rolex Sydney Hobart is not only about prizes. Eighty-three of the 88 competing yachts finished the 2016 race, testament to the dedication, commitment and passion invested by all who compete. Each and every edition of the race is unique and every race sailed likewise. Competitors enjoy sharing stories on the docks after the race and this overriding sense of friendship and camaraderie are important facets of what makes the Rolex Sydney Hobart so compelling. Video above published Dec 31, 2016.
