North Sails Collection | Chapter III - "The hope" (video)

North Sails Collection | Chapter III - "The hope"

North Sails video above originally published Nov 12, 2018:
We’ve entitled this trip “To The Oceans.” It has allowed us to discover the problem of plastic in the oceans accompanied by Sam Potter, experience the awakening of ecological awareness with Simon Nessman and now, with Joana Schenker, we would like to wind up with an ode to nature, to our oceans.
We traveled all the way with her through an evocative and poetic journey through the glaciers of Iceland, a wild place of unusual beauty that reminds us that our planet is alive…. A place where time seems to stop, where you can only hear the sound of Nature. Blue, green, black, immense skies, textures and shapes of this wonderful place unravel in front of your eyes as if they were there, just waiting for you.
It was 17 years ago that Joana decided to make bodyboarding a priority in her life and she doesn’t regret it. The sea has taught her more than she expected. Joana is the a Bodyboard World Champion, and has previously earned four European championship titles, making her one of the most successful athletes of all times.
Once there, she realized that the ocean had taught her much more than what she expected from it. The ocean is not silent, we need to listen. The ocean needs our help, protecting it, is to protect ourselves. All together we can do it!

To The Oceans Chapter 2: The Project

Simon Nessman, one of the most iconic models in the world of fashion, recently decided to abandon New York City and move to Vargas Island, a UNESCO nature reserve, with the idea of getting back to nature and leave behind what he refers to as the asphalt jungle. In this second chapter, North Sails wants to inspire us, showing us that we can call reconnect with nature and do our bit for a crucial cause: protecting the planet. 'TO THE OCEANS'. Chapter 1. Hawaii, 'THE CALL' (video)

'TO THE OCEANS'. Chapter 1. Hawaii, 'THE CALL'

Sam Potter, better known as @captainpotter, has become an influencer on the social networks, thanks to his inspiring images and videos of his trips around the world, captivating his more than 250,000 followers on Instagram.
Raised in Hawaii, Potter has lived ever since he was a child near the ocean, surfing and scuba diving in the Hawaiian Islands. His trips stand out particularly for their spirit and humility, featuring his thirst for discovery, and in particular, his desire to collaborate with different humanitarian and ecological initiatives.
Sam was the perfect travel companion for North Sails. The goal? To discover the real situation of Kamilo Beach, a beach particularly punished by the sea currents. What used to be the beach chosen by the natives to build their wooden canoes has now become one of the beaches with the most plastic pollution on the planet.
The sea currents are responsible for much of the plastic waste from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch drifting ashore in Kamilo. In the film, we will discover a Sam Potter who is surprised and devastated by the scene he encounters, but who is also an optimistic fighter, convinced that his generation will lead the way to a change in mentality that will change the course of the planet. As Sam puts it, “Our future depends absolutely on what we do now. By protecting our oceans, we are protecting our future.”

RSHYR 2018 - Supermaxi Interviews

RSHYR 2018 – Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2018 post-race supermaxi interviews: With much of the attention in Hobart focused on the AIS protest against Wild Oats XI (the protest was found invalid at the hearing) this selection of interviews with skippers and some highly credentialed crew aboard the four super maxis gives some insights on how things played out on the water for the four super maxis. Bow Caddy spoke to Juan Vila (Wild Oats XI), Mark Bradford, Tom Addis and Brad Butterworth (Black Jack), Kyle Langford (Comanche) and Chris Nicholson and Bouwe Bekking (InfoTrack). Even across this eminent line-up there was some surprise that four such different designs could occupy the same patch of water for so much of the race. In 2017 Kialoa II finished the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race in a very respectable time, despite breaking her boom on the first day. In 2018 this Sparkman and Stephens classic reveled in the strong downwind running of the first day with 5 sails flying, stuck it out through some light patches mid race and then finished her run with a typical upwind thrash around Tasman Island and across Storm Bay in 30 plus knots, arriving in Hobart with no damage at all.
