Standings after Leg 6 (via VolvoOceanRace.com)

Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 Leg 7: This is the defining leg of the Volvo Ocean Race, the longest leg of the race--7,600 nautical miles--and most of it is through some of the coldest, roughest ocean in the world. The fleet will leave Auckland on 18 March and head south past New Zealand’s East Cape into the Southern Ocean. Once they get far enough south they will be racing from west to east, sailing within the Westerly Storm Track (low pressure systems circulating west-to east around Antarctica), running with the low pressure systems that prowl around Antarctica. There will be big waves and there will be big breeze. And icebergs. Once across this vast expanse of ocean they will have to negotiate the legendary Cape Horn – where the power of the South Pacific slams into South America – and then turn north, traversing the coast of Argentina, Uruguay and finally Brazil to ItajaĆ. Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2017, Sept 4-9, Video & LIVE Twitter Feed

Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2017 – Expertly Delivered

The 28th edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup concluded with a crescendo. Most classes were open until the last race of their respective series and competition remained intense until the last. The 2017 edition of the most important event of the Maxi racing season was expertly delivered by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1967. At the final prize giving in the Piazza Azzurra, in front of the YCCS clubhouse, the major class winners received the spoils: the plaudits of their peers, a trophy and the specially-engraved Rolex timepiece - the unequivocal symbol of excellence in the sport of yacht racing. Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2017 – The Prize Is In Sight

Video published September 8, 2017: The 50 yachts gathered in Porto Cervo for the 28th edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup are beyond the halfway point of the event. The standings are beginning to filter the likely winners and, for a few, thoughts may be turning to the prizes on offer should they cement victory.

September 8 UPDATE Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup: perfect weather and hard fought races--Winners of the day were Cannonball, Rebel, Nefertiti, Nahita, Jethou, Wohpe, Shirlaf--News - Yacht Club Costa Smeralda: "Tonight the shipowners and their guests are expected at the Rolex Gala Dinner at the Cala di Volpe hotel. Tomorrow, September 9th and Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup's final day, the program features stick races for the Maxi72 and Mini Maxi Racer classes, while all other classes will be engaged in a coastal regatta starting at 11.30 am."

Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2017 - Inspired by Sailors

Video above published Sep 6, 2017: The 28th edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup got underway on Monday, 4 September. The 50 yachts gathered in Porto Cervo for this annual festival of big boat sailing pay fitting tribute to the host, organizer and founder, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda was founded in May 1967 by H.H. the Aga Khan, AndrĆØ Ardoin, Giuseppe Kerry Mentasti and Luigi Vietti as a non-profit making sporting association for fellow sailing enthusiasts and with a view to promoting related activities. 50 years on it has kept true to that vision and this year’s Maxi Yacht Rolex is proof positive of its success in doing so.

UPDATE 7 Sep 2017: Warm weather forecast in Porto Cervo, where the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup & Rolex Maxi72 World Championship is being held, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda with the support of the Rolex and Rolex sponsor 'International Maxi Association. The program originally provided a day off at the race committee for any recovery races. So it was for the Wally and Maxi 72 classes, coming out of the harbor today to "recover" Tuesday's races, canceled because of the bonaccia. At 11.30 the race committee has started the start-up procedures with north-west wind of about 18 knots, then steadily climbed above the 20 at the buoy, eventually increasing in the final stage of the racing with 25-knot gusts. In the Maxi 72 class, leader at the first buoy was Caol Ila R but Momo won. In the Wally Class Wallycento Galateia increased its lead on Nahita (today fifth) and Lyra (today second). Due to the steady rise in wind intensity, the Principal Race Officer, Peter Craig, sent yachts to the yacht after the first test. This evening there is a large Crew Party in the Blue Square, in front of the Clubhouse of the YCCS. The standings for the other classes remains unchanged with Ribelle (SuperMaxi), Rambler 88 (Maxi), Jethou (Maxi Racing), Supernikka (Mini Maxi RC 1), H2O (Mini Maxi RC 2).

UPDATE 5 Sep 2017: Today was the second day of racing at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, the event organized annually by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with Title Sponsor Rolex and the International Maxi Association. Current standings see Ribelle at the head of the Supermaxis, Highland Fling XI leading the Maxis, Jethou leading the Mini Maxi Racers, WallyƱo leading the Mini Maxi Racing Cruising 1 Class and H2O the Mini Maxi Racing Cruising 2 Class. The Maxi72s and the Wallys, saw their race called off after the start, so Bella Mente and Magic Blue are both still in first place--read more here.

RC44 Marstrand World Championship 2017 Aug 10-13 (video)

Day 4 RC44 Marstrand World Championship - Battleship Nika sweeps to victory

Video above published Aug 13, 2017: Team Nika have won the RC44 Marstrand World Championship after a dominant performance across the four days of competition. The final day delivered the strongest wind of the week, with the north-westerly breeze blowing at 15 knots and with a big, lumpy seaway. Vladimir Prosikhin may not have won any races today but he steered Nika to a comfortable victory overall, earning back the trophy he last raised in 2015.

The final race was a close battle for second and third. Team Ceeref, the 2016 World Champion, crossed in second place behind Artemis Racing. This was sufficient to secure second overall for Igor Lah from Slovenia. Behind him, Bronenosec's photo-finish ahead of Peninsula Petroleum was sufficient to put two Russian teams on equal points. On tie-break, Bronenosec beat Katusha for third place overall.

The RC44 Marstrand World Championship is the third event of the 2017 RC44 Championship Tour, which pits the world's top businessmen and the best sailors in the industry compete in high-performance one-design 44-foot carbon racing yachts.

Day 3 RC44 Marstrand World Championship - Nika Unstoppable

Video above published Aug 13, 2017: A few boats had a good go at the front of the fleet on day three of the RC44 Marstrand World Championship, but none could match the consistency of Team Nika. Vladimir Prosikhin took the winner's gun in the first race of the day, sailed in 10 knots and lumpy seas. When the rain fell, it made little difference to his fortunes, following up with a second and fourth place. The Russian team has impressively taken a race win every day of the World Championship so far, putting them 15 points ahead. Nika's closest rivals struggled, opening up a big points gap to second place, now held by Bronenosec with Ceeref on equal points.

Day 2 RC44 Marstrand World Championship - Bronenosec's young guns hit their mark

Aug 11, 2017: Bronenosec Sailing showed some serious interest in the title after putting in some good scores on day two of the RC44 Marstrand World Championship. Vladimir Liubomirov steered the blue boat to victory in the first race of the day, sailed in about 8 to 10 knots of westerly wind. A sixth in the next race was not so special but Bronenosec surged into the lead of the third race of the day, only to let it slip to Artemis Racing on the final run to the finish.

Day 1 RC44 Marstrand World Championship - Things go right for Nika

Video above published Aug 10, 2017: Vladimir Prosikhin has steered Team Nika into the lead of the RC44 Marstrand World Championship after a solid opening day in Sweden. The Russian crew notched up scores of 2,6,1 in the nine-boat fleet to hold a two-point advantage over defending World Champion, Team Ceeref from Slovenia.

Video above published Jun 6, 2017: German skipper and Olympic gold medallist Jochen Schümann talks about the Giraglia Rolex Cup, one of yachting’s premier competitions. Forged from friendship, this 243-nautical-mile offshore race through the Mediterranean brings together fleet of more than 200 yachts, sailing from Saint-Tropez to Genoa, Italy, via the iconic Giraglia rock off the tip of Corsica. Schümann, who won line honours in 2014 and a specially engraved Rolex timepiece, describes how special this race is to him and to the yachting community worldwide.

Renowned for its prevailing Corinthian spirit and proud traditions, the Giraglia Rolex Cup is three events in one, comprising overnight races from Marseilles and Sanremo to Saint-Tropez; an inshore series in Saint-Tropez; and the famous offshore race ‘La Giraglia’, which runs 241 nautical miles from Saint-Tropez to Genoa via the islet that gives the event its name. The 65th edition starts on Friday, 9 June 2017.

Following races from Marseille and Sanremo the fleet will gather in the chic harbour of Saint-Tropez for three days of inshore competition before embarking on a 241-nautical mile offshore race to Genoa, Italy via the Giraglia, a rocky outcrop off the northern tip of Corsica.

2017 Antigua Bermuda Race Start May 12, Sailing Video

UPDATE: 2017 Antigua Bermuda Race: Monohull Line Honours to Warrior:

Video above published May 16, 2017: Stephen Murray Jr.'s Volvo 70 Warrior, finished the 2017 Antigua Bermuda Race on Tuesday 16 May 2017 taking Monohull Line Honours and setting the Monohull Race Record for the Antigua Bermuda Race of 3 days 20 hours 32 mins & 41 secs.

2017 Antigua Bermuda Race start

Video above published May 13, 2017: Start of the first Antigua Bermuda Race organised by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in association with Antigua Sailing Week. Sponsored by Goslings Rum and Bermuda Tourism.
Antigua Bermuda Race organised by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in association with Antigua Sailing Week: An impressive entry list is taking shape for the Antigua Bermuda Race which starts from Antigua on Friday 12th May, 2017. With 22 entries, including 17 over 50ft and seven Maxis and one SuperMaxi, the sight of the fleet departing for the 900 nautical mile race will be nothing short of spectacular. The variety of the fleet shows the wide appeal of the offshore race, attracting ocean going cruisers, round the world racing yachts, high performance multihulls, as well as classic designs. The latest entry to the Antigua Bermuda Race is the beautiful classic Bermudian yawl, Mariella, skippered by owner, Carlo Falcone. The 80ft (24m) Alfred Mylne-designed ketch was built entirely from wood by the legendary William Fife & Son yard in Scotland in 1938 and was lovingly restored by Carlo after being badly damaged in a hurricane. Mariella is now in fantastic condition and on top form having secured overall victory in the recent Panerai Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta.

One of the first yachts to enter the Antigua Bermuda Race was Spirit of Bermuda and there is more than meets the eye to the 112ft three-masted schooner. Just a couple of weeks before the start of the Antigua Bermuda Race, Spirit of Bermuda was racing with the giants at Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. Spirit of Bermuda got the better of the 141ft (43m) Columbia and gave the professional crew on the 210ft (64m) Adix a run for their money. Spirit of Bermuda is owned by the Bermuda Sloop Foundation, the brain child of founder Malcolm Kirkland, with co-founders Jay Kempe and Alan Burland.
