Virginia Couple Sails Around Cape Horn (video)

Norfolk couple sails around South America - YouTube: "John and Ruth Martin of Norfolk, Va., spent six years sailing their boat "Moon Dog" around South America."

Norfolk couple reflects on six-year sailing journey | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com: " . . . The conditions around Cape Horn supplied the biggest challenges. The waters can be so hazardous that the Chilean navy requires all vessels in the area to report their location at least twice a day. "We were apprehensive at times down there because of the winds and seas," John said. "Just anchoring required Ruth to row to shore with 300-foot lines to be tied to trees because of the high winds.... She had to do that while I tried to keep the boat on anchor. That took two hours or more every day. It really tests your seamanship and other skills down there. "But we got back.". . . "
