Significant cost saving measures planned for 2017 America’s Cup - 35th America's Cup: "... “After reviewing prototypes of the new AC45 sports boats being tested on the water over the past several months, it is clear that if we raced smaller boats in 2017, we could dramatically reduce costs without sacrificing any of the spectacle or the design, engineering and athletic challenge fundamental to the America’s Cup,” said Commercial Commissioner Harvey Schiller. “We have a responsibility to think of what is best for the long term health of the America’s Cup as well as improving the value equation for team principals and partners...  The rule changes are being drafted and teams will be asked to vote on these changes before the end of March."

Team NZ funding in doubt after Auckland loses America's Cup qualifier - National - NZ Herald News: "... Team New Zealand's government funding is triggered by economic value, including an Auckland regatta. Asked if that could be the end of the Kiwi team, Dalton said he wants to wait and see how next week plays out. Dalton said that while the Kiwis support cost reduction, they're "completely in line with Prada" and feel any decision on boat downsizing should be unanimous."..."

Chicago out of running for 2017 America's Cup - chicagotribune.com: "Two cites have been notified they still are in the running to host the 2017 America’s Cup regatta, but Chicago isn’t one of them. San Diego and Bermuda have been shortlisted to host the event, America’s Cup organizers announced Tuesday. Cup officials visited Chicago in February and again in May to scout Lake Michigan as a potential course, naming the city one of three finalists to host the 2017 event. Now it appears likely the city [Chicago] will host America’s Cup World Series races [a series of preliminary races] in 2015 and 2016.... "
