Spindrift 2 finished her first around-the-world attempt | Jules Verne: "Spindrift racing finished its first voyage around the world - Spindrift 2 crossed the line at 15:01 UTC after 47 days 10 hours 59 minutes and 02 seconds at sea" -- Spindrift racing (@spindriftracing) | Twitter -- The crew, led by Yann Guichard, did not beat, on this attempt, the time set by Loïck Peyron (they were slower by 1d 21h 16’ 09”), whose record of 45 days 13 hours 42 minutes is still the one to beat.

Jules Verne Trophy - Arrivée à Ouessant // Finish line at Ushant
The sailors on Spindrift 2 crossed the finish line of the Jules Verne Trophy off Ushant at 15:01 UTC on Friday, January 8th after 47 days 10 hours 59 minutes and 02 seconds at sea. The trimaran skippered by Yann Guichard has finished its first Jules Verne Trophy, registering the second fastest time in history, and with Dona Bertarelli becoming the fastest woman to sail around the world. IDEC SPORT SAILING | JOYON HOPING TO GET TO THE HORN IN SEVEN DAYS: "16 December 2015 - IDEC SPORT is once again on the attack ... The big question today is knowing at what point to begin a series of gybes in order to get across a transition zone between an area of high pressure and a low. This decision will affect a lot of things, but Francis Joyon hopes to be back up with the pace of Banque Populaire V by Cape Horn. This would mean rounding the infamous cape by Tuesday. On the other side of the world aboard IDEC SPORT on Wednesday 16th December on this 25th day at sea, the crew is continuing to make headway towards the NE. “We’re going to continue for a little while like that,” explained Francis Joyon. “We’re currently getting around the north of an area of low pressure that is stretching out a bit with some light stuff. We’re still in the WNW’ly air stream for the moment, but soon we will have to weave in and out. We’re going to have to carry out a series of gybes to get around the low and then wait for the moment, when we can dive south to an area of high pressure.”..."

The Race 4: Elliot Brown Timekeeper Cup prizes awarded: "The Race 4: Elliot Brown Timekeeper Cup prizes have been awarded at an event at the prestigious Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. Winners LMAX Exchange received a flag from the race’s Official Timekeeper Elliot Brown and Elliot Brown gift cards which were presented by the British watch brand’s Clipper Race ambassador, Da Nang Viet Nam crew member Matt Ogg. LMAX Exchange Skipper Olivier Cardin, whose team have now won three of the four races, said it had been the best race of his life. GREAT Britain received its second place prize pennant, and Garmin for its third place finish."

Clipper Round the World Yacht Race News: Sydney Podium Complete: "Garmin has crossed the Race 4 finish line into Sydney in third place, finishing at 0339 local time December 13, 1639 UTC December 12 to complete the podium. GREAT Britain had earlier crossed the Race 4 finish line in second place at 0138 AEDT December 13, 1438 UTC December 12. And at 0517 local time December 13,1817 UTC December 12, Mission Performance crossed the finish line in fourth position. Spindrift 2 Departure for the Jules Verne Trophy - Published on Nov 22, 2015: On Sunday, November 22nd, 2015 at 4:01:58 GMT, the trimaran Spindrift 2, led by Yann Guichard and Dona Bertarelli, crossed the start line that runs from Créac’h lighthouse (Ushant island, France) to Lizard Point (England) for the start of her crewed non-stop circumnavigation. The boat crossed the line in a north wind of around 10 knots, under a full mainsail and a solent. Read more at Spindrift racing.


IDEC Departure for Jules Verne Trophy: The suspense around the weather window ended Saturday noon in the port of Château in Brest, when Francis Joyon and his five crew members have gone into "green code", meaning an imminent departure. A few hours later, they were dropping the moorings of big red trimaran: "We are betting that the weather situation in the South Atlantic will become favorable, when a window is displayed, you must enter the" smiled Francis Joyon. And then here, they left towards Ushant--IDEC SPORT set off at 02:02:22 UTC on Sunday 22nd November 2015. The time to beat: Loïck Peyron and his crew (Banque Populaire) with a time of 45 days, 13 hours, 42 minutes and 53 seconds. To smash the Jules Verne Trophy record, IDEC SPORT has to be back across the line before 1544hrs on Wednesday 6th January. The crew: The international crew on IDEC SPORT includes just six men: Francis Joyon (FRA), Bernard Stamm (SUI), Gwénolé Gahinet (FRA), Alex Pella (ESP), Clément Surtel (FRA) and Boris Herrmann (GER). Jules Verne Trophy - "The Jules Verne Trophy is a prize for the fastest circumnavigation of the world by any type of yacht with no restrictions on the size of the crew provided the vessel has registered with the organization and paid an entry fee. A vessel holding the Jules Verne trophy will not necessarily hold the absolute round the world record. The trophy was first awarded to the first yacht which sailed around the world in less than 80 days. The name of the award is a reference to the Jules Verne novel Around the World in Eighty Days in which Phileas Fogg traverses the planet (albeit by railroad and steamboat) in 80 days. The current holder is Banque Populaire V skippered by Loick Peyron in 45 days 13 hours 42 minutes 53 seconds." Route

• The Jules Verne Trophy's starting point is defined by an imaginary line between the Créac'h lighthouse on Ouessant (Ushant) Island, France, and the Lizard Lighthouse, UK. 
• Circumnavigate the world leaving the capes of Good Hope, Leeuwin, and Horn to port. Cross the starting line in the opposite direction.
• The starting line is open as of the official ratification of the trophy's rules by the World Sailing Speed Record Council.

Rules

• Propulsion of the boat must solely be by natural forces of the wind and of the crew.
• The Jules Verne trophy is open to any type of boat with no restrictions.
• Crew size is not restricted.
• The circumnavigation must be completed non-stop and with no physical outside assistance.
• Challengers must respect safety rules.

Spindrift 2’s team for Jules Verne Trophy announced | Spindrift racing: "To undertake the crewed around-the-world record is as much about the human adventure as it is a technical and sporting challenge. The men and women working alongside Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard at Spindrift racing have been preparing this race against the clock for almost three years. The target: to sail around the world in less than 45 days, 13 hours and 42 minutes. The tough record they will try to beat was set by Loïck Peyron and his crew in 2012 on Banque Populaire V, which was renamed Spindrift 2 a year later."
