Until now, no boat had managed to cover this stretch in less than 8 days. This new record logically follows the one they set between Cape Agulhas and Cape Leeuwin on Thursday evening....IDEC SPORT has smashed by more than one day (1 day, 5 hours and 31 minutes) the record set by Spindrift, less than two hours earlier. Yann Guichard’s crew crossed this same longitude at 0839hrs UTC on Saturday morning after spending 8 days and 4 hours and 35 minutes on this stretch..."

Registration Opens for Sailing World Cup Miami 2016 | ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami: "Online entry to Sailing World Cup Miami 2016 Presented by Sunbrella is open. US Sailing’s premier event is set to return to Miami, Fla. for top-level Olympic and Paralympic class racing. The event is the only North American regatta to be included in World Sailing’s 2015-16 Sailing World Cup series. The regatta is a mainstay on the winter circuit for sailors campaigning for the next Olympic and Paralympic Games. The deadline for priority entries with regards to quotas is December 4, 2015.Entries must be received by January 4, 2016 to qualify for early entry fee and will not be accepted after January 24, 2016. Competitors and coaches are required to register online, as on-site registration will not be available. Additional fees will apply for entries received after the deadline.
Competitors in the Olympic and Paralympic classes will have five days of fleet racing from Monday, January 25 to Friday, January 29. Medal Races across the 10 Olympic classes will bring the regatta to a close on Saturday, January 30 where medals will be awarded to the top three boats. Regatta Headquarters will be located at the US Sailing Center Miami, a U.S. Olympic Training Site, in Coconut Grove, Miami, Fla. Additional hosts for the event include the City of Miami’s Regatta Park, Coconut Grove Sailing Club and Shake-A-Leg Miami. These sailing organizations host classes onshore, as well as help run the on-the-water racing. The Coral Reef Yacht Club hosts the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and is the site for the Regatta Village throughout the week. Event winners in each Olympic class from Sailing World Cup Miami will qualify for the 2016 Sailing World CupFinal, while the best placed ‘home continent’ sailor will also qualify. Several countries will use Sailing World Cup Miami as an Olympic and Paralympic Selection event, including the United States, with the results in nine classes contributing towards Rio 2016 selection for American sailors. The event is also an Olympic Qualifier for countries in North America and South America. ISAF Sailing World Cup – Abu Dhabi: All ten Olympic sailing events will be contested in Abu Dhabi from 27 October to 1 November, with an open kiteboarding event joining the fray around Lulu Island off the UAE capital's stunning Corniche. With just 20 boats in each event the competition is set to be fierce. The ten Olympic events will contest an opening series and a Medal Race with the kiteboard fleet using a short track format.

The ISAF Sailing World Cup is a world-class annual series for Olympic sailing. It is open to the sailing events chosen for the 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition. Its centre piece is the ISAF Sailing World Cup Final in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup will consist of five regattas for all ten Olympic events and where possible, Formula Kite Racing. Qualification places for the ISAF Sailing World Cup final are up for grabs at each event. "The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) continues to address concerns and is taking steps to ensure the health and safety of all athletes who will be competing in the upcoming Aquece Rio, Olympic Test Event and the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition. ISAF continues to work closely with senior staff members at the Rio 2016 Organising Committee for the Olympic Games as well as the International Olympic Committee (IOC), whom ISAF President Carlo Croce and ISAF Chief Executive Officer Peter Sowrey met with in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the 128th IOC Session. ISAF is in continuous discussions with Brazilian authorities in preparation for the Olympic Games, and has been given reassurances on pollution and objects in the water, in and around the race area of Marina da Gloria and Guanabara Bay. ISAF, Rio 2016, the IOC, the Brazilian Government, Rio State Environment Institute (INEA) and State Environment Agency (SEA) are all working together to prepare for Rio 2016, and Brazilian authorities are working to guidelines and recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure a safe and fair field of play for the athletes. The health and safety of the competing athletes is paramount and responses have been implemented from concerns raised by both Member National Authorities (MNAs) and sailors from previous events, including the 2014 Aquece Rio, the first of two sailing test events that was held in August 2014. Sailors were concerned with objects that may interfere with racing during the Olympic Games, and in response the state government launched a tender of up to $11million USD for 17 ecobarriers to be put in place. These ecobarriers will prevent floating garbage from entering Guanabara Bay and the race areas. The new system of ecobarriers will be complemented by ecoboats that will collect garbage that accumulates around the barriers, with a further step of a monitoring system utilising satellite pictures to support the ecoboats. As part of every Olympic Games, there is a focus on legacy. ISAF hopes that the power of the Olympic Games will provide a great legacy as Rio de Janeiro works to improve the state of the bay generally. The IOC monitors the water twice weekly, which will be increased to every other day during the 2015 Aquece Rio test event. Other measures taken to increase this legacy will be a new pipeline that will divert sewage from Marina da Gloria, ready by November 2015, well in advance of the Olympic Games, which compliments the other proactive measures around the Guanabara Bay, such as closing landfills, reducing industrial pollution and increasing water treatment works. Rio will welcome sailors once again from 13-22 August 2015 for the second Test Event, with racing taking place inside and outside of Guanabara Bay. The Test Event will allow ISAF the opportunity to evaluate and make key decisions in advance of making the final decisions that will govern the main event. Millions of visitors flock to Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach each year. These beaches and other world famous attractions, such as Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer, will ensure these iconic features of the city, and the athleticism and dedication of each Olympic sailor, will be showcased side by side. In terms of displaying the sport, Rio will certainly provide a perfect platform for the beauty of the sport to be promoted alongside natural and man-made wonders with racing taking place in the shadow of both Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer." source:ISAF Statement
Sailing was first contested as an Olympic sport at the 1900 Paris Games. Since then, the classes of boats allowed to compete have continually evolved to reflect advances in yacht design and technology. Equipment advances over the past 20 years have created a trend towards smaller and lighter craft, placing ever greater demands on both the athletic and technical capacities of the sailors.

ISAF Review Complaints About 34th America's Cup Jury: "ISAF has received complaints about the 34th America's Cup Jury from Paul Henderson. The complaints concern alleged gross misconduct of the judges in how they conducted themselves. ISAF procedures require complaints to be reviewed to establish if there is a case to answer. ISAF has reviewed these together with external legal counsel and has considered representations from the judges in question. In conclusion, ISAF considers there is no case to answer having reviewed all the complaints. There is a right of appeal against this decision and ISAF will not comment further."
